SugarPea Designs is so excited to be celebrating our 1st Birthday – and what an amazing year it has been!!  I vividly remember the overwhelming excitement and nervousness I felt, when I took the leap of faith to live out my passion for stamping and paper crafting to launch SugarPea Designs.  I cannot begin to express how immensely grateful I am for the amount of support, enthusiasm, and sheer warmth that I have been shown over this past year.

I’m indebted to all of our wonderful fans, customers and designers (past & present) who have lent their incredible talent to make this dream of mine come true.  I am humbled to be here and I look forward to what the future holds for SugarPea Designs.

We are celebrating this momentous occasion with a Blog Hop featuring our AMAZING SugarPea design team and some very talented Special Guests!

I’m going to kick things off with a very special birthday card of my own.  This card is for my SUPER hubby, who’s birthday is tomorrow!!  He really is My Hero and I couldn’t do it without him.  He is so unbelievably supportive and is the first one to roll up his sleeves and help out with anything that I need.  From packing orders, post office runs, cooking dinner to taking the kids out for the afternoon so I can get some work done.  He’s even offered to color or make cards, but trust me…no one wants to see that!!  LOL

SugarPea Designs My Hero by Wendy Ramlakhan

I started by stamping the My Hero image directly onto cardstock and then created a spotlight background with distress inks right over top and then used the SugarCuts – Hearts Journal Card die to crop it into a card panel.  I created “star dust” by flicking a small wet paint brush dipped in Confetti White, Perfect Pearls.  I brushed a (clear) Wink of Stella pen over the stamped stars on the card base and added a little more shimmer to his t-shirt and sentiment with a Pilot Silver Marker.  This card is really quite sparkly, but not in a girly way. 🙂

SugarPea Designs - My Hero by Wendy Ramlakhan.

I know lots of people struggle with creating masculine cards, but I LOVE them.  Something about the simplicity of the designs and color palettes make it joy rather than a chore for me. When SugarPea Designs was still in the planning stages, I knew that I wanted to offer fresh and fun masculine images that would be perfect for grown men and boys alike.  My Hero, from our BeanStalk Collection has remained a fan favorite (and mine as well) since it’s release last April.  I can’t get enough of this guy, from his sweet spectacles down to his untied shoes – he makes those hard to create masculine cards such a breeze.

Now you can’t have a Birthday Bash without prizes and there are lots of prizes to be won along the way!  A few of our blog hop participants will be giving away a SugarPea Designs stamp set so please leave some love on your travels.   In addition to this, one lucky winner will be randomly chosen from all the comments left and that winner will receive a:

But that’s not all…we also want YOU to be part of the party by sharing a card with us.

Once you have completed the hop, we’d love it if you’d keep the celebration going, by creating a Birthday card or project and linking it up here for a chance to WIN a $25 Gift Certificate!

*Hop and LinkUp ends midnight, January 28th with winners being announced and posted on February 1st.

Finally, enter coupon code BDAY01 at checkout to receive 10% off all orders – valid until January 24.

Take a look at this list of insanely talented designers, how lucky are we?!?!

Today on our blog, we are featuring a creation from our very own Social Media Coordinator, Lesley Coghan!   She does such an amazing job getting lots of eyes on our products through social media that today we’d like to tip our hats to her and get a few more sets of eye balls on her gorgeous work!

Just LOOK at how she colored up the fox from our Foxy Friend stamp set!

Makes you want to reach out and pat him, doesn’t it?!  Love the depth of her coloring!   Such contrast!  And then she brilliantly paired him with some soft color and muted tones to balance it all out.  She used the twine to help ground the image and her placement of the sentiment is perfect!

Please be sure to head on over Lesley’s blog to see more of her beautiful work!

If you would like to make the Foxy Friend stamp set your own, you can find it HERE.

It’s time again for our monthly, Sweet 2 Repeat Blog Hop !  Now that so many of you have our January Product Release stamp sets in your hot little hands, our Pod Squad of designers have geared up to inspire you with even MORE creative possiblites featuring the newest SugarPea Designs sets!

The team has pulled out all of the stops with a variety of projects that will spark YOUR creativity. Click through to each of their blogs below to see the FUN they have dreamed up. Leave them a little blog love and one lucky commenter will WIN a $20 Gift Certificate to the SPD Boutique.

Our newest line of stamps, our Sweet Chic Collection, has been a well received addition.  Sweet and simple images with SugarCuts dies to match is a formula for successful card making!  Many of our designers are colorists, but even those designers have enjoyed stepping away from their copics and getting a a little inky with our Sweet Chic Collection!

Our ProjectPea Designer Kerri Michaud is a wonderful colorist, but here she showed us that she does not need to rely on her coloring to create a beautiful card.   It’s all in the design and Kerri has created this sweet card for our latest SugarSketch challenge with some products from out Sweet Chic Collection:

Day Filled With Love copy

Kerri chose a sentiment from our  Special Delivery stamp set and added a border created with our SugarCuts – Heart Border.  She used the little red hearts were the negatives from the die cut and she inlaid them back into the die cut.  We love the pop of color!  That little heart she tucked behind behind the sentiment panel was created with a die from our versatile SugarCuts – Heart Journal Card.  The stitching around the perimeter of the card is such a sweet finishing touch!

If you have yet to check out our Sweet Chic Collection, you can find all of the stamps and SugarCuts dies right HERE in our online shoppe!

Today we have Wendy stopping by for a chat and with a look at how she creates! You’re going to go CRAZY her sweet project!

I’m feeling…

Ready for 2015 while it will bring some BIG changes for me ( I will officially become an empty nester ) I will do my best to embrace these changes and find new ways to stay busy.

I’m Wishing..

I had better will power … I’m currently snacking on homemade cookies and my 3rd coffee of the morning.

I’m Loving…

My Volunteer position at our local hospital.

I’m Creating…

SugarPea Design cards for the month of January…seriously having a blast with this newest release.

I’m Reading…

Nothing currently …I did start to re-read The Outlander series before the Starz mini series debuted on TV and soon I’ll start to re-read the second book before April 4th … I love Diana Gabaldon and Jodi Picoult I’ve read everything they have written.

I’m Watching…

I LOVE renovations shows, cooking competitions like Master Chef & Master Chef Junior and the ID channel… and action movies …quite an array I know anything creative or fast paced is for me.

For my project today I chose to make a shaker card….I am having soo much fun creating shakers with any possible theme I can think of.

I start out with an idea , then I stamp my images , choose papers and start the steps to create a window.

I used our newest SugarCut Heart Journal Card die to create my window, I generally use washi tape to hold it in place.

I adhere the acetate then add foam tape .

I also like to cut out a frame of colored cardstock to cover the foam tape and make the inside of the card look just as nice as the outside.  I also rub the acetate with my embossing buddy to get rid of any static.  Another cool tip is to take a q- tip and dip it in baby powder, and run it along the inside of the tape and it will stop your shaker bits ie – sequins, micro beads or in my case mail from sticking to the sides.
For decorating the front I decided to cut another frame from designer paper.
I colored my image with Copics.  Did you all notice that I stamped and colored all those pieces of mail and never realized that they were stamped upside down?  But it didn’t matter because I was hand cutting them all out anyways.

Once I figure out where all the images are going  then I’ll add the pieces of mail, close the shaker with another piece of acetate, adhere the images to the front and finish the inside with my sentiment and another cute embellishment…a letter …cut using the Sugar Cut Special Delivery accents envelope.

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you enjoyed this little tutorial into how I make a card.
You can find Happy Mail and the SugarCuts – Heart Journal Card die set in store HERE!

We must admit, our design team rocked it during release week!  Do you agree?   Yes, we featured some of the creations on our Facebook page during the sweet sneaks, but we had to randomly choose what we would feature because there was so much goodness from which to choose!  There are so many MORE creations that deserve to hang out in the spotlight and so we will be giving them their due time here on the blog over the course of the next few weeks!

We lured the sassy and talented Wendy Bond out of paper crafting retirement and got her to get inky again and we are so glad we did!  Wendy even had to get a new blog up and running again.   Seriously.   She was totally retired.   We would love for you to hop on over to her new blog and follow her and help her rebuild her fan base!  A designer of her caliber deserves to have a bunch of eyes on her creations!

Wendy created this adorable card featuring some stamps and Sugar Cuts Dies from our newest release:

happymail copy

This card features the sweet mailman from the Happy Mail stamp set from our Beanstalk Collection.   Don’t you just love his paper pieced lid?!   I love that she colored his beak and feet in pink, too!  And just looked with Wendy did with out new SugarCuts – Notched Heart Journal Card!  She created that happy little background by running the die through her die cutting machine with white card stock and then again with various patterned papers.  Then she inlaid the negatives of the die (the hearts) into the due cut.   Such a fitting backdrop for her penguin delivering love letters!

If you would like to make the Happy Mail stamp set your own, you can find it HERE.  If you would like to make the SugarCuts – Notched Heart Journal Cut yours, you can that HERE.   And don’t forget that with every order received in January, you will receive one of our new magnetic cards to make storing your dies a breeze!

Here’s my take on the sketch featuring Let’s Fiesta!

SugarPea Designs - Let's Fiesta by Wendy Ramlakhan2

This cool hombre is SO much fun to color, although I did experience a marker malfunction while coloring his mustache so I’m not too happy with how that part came out.  I added a chevron design along the bottom on the horizontal panel with our January Sweet Incentive stamp set, Build A Background – Basics, which you can receive for FREE with an purchase of $60 or more.  Take a look HERE for more details on how our Sweet Incentive Program works.

SugarPea Designs - Let' Fiesta by Wendy Ramlakhan3I created pierced circles with the SugarCuts – Layered Treat Labels die set and then stamped them with a sentiment and a hot pepper image.

You can find all of the stamps and dies used by clicking on the images below.

Welcome back to the final day of our January Product Release!  We think you will agree that we’ve saved the sweetest introduction for last!!

Whether celebrating a birthday, a little one’s lost tooth, or sending a note of thanks, Fairy Sweet from our SugarSnap Collection will make any occasion a little bit sweeter.  Loaded with accessory images and (8) versatile sentiments, you’ll send the sweetest of wishes when creating with this magical set.

My sweet six year old daughter, Brooke is about to lose one of her top front teeth any day now, so I created this card for her.  Each day she works at wiggling her tooth a little more and her excitement grows, knowing that she will soon receive a visit from the Tooth Fairy.

SugarPea Designs - Fairy Sweet by Wendy Ramlakhan

I asked Brookie what she thought the Tooth Fairy looked like, and she said she was certain that she had sparkly blue hair!  Hahaha!  So, of course I had to color my sweet fairy in blue and teal Copics.  I cut some thick vellum with the SugarCuts – Notched Heart Journal Card die.  I’m kinda in love with it, can you tell?!?  I then stamped the Tooth Fairy seal (might be my favorite part of the whole set!!) on the outside of a tiny white bag – I thought it would be fun to tuck a little note or some money inside.  {I know she’s gonna want money!!  LOL}

And I couldn’t resist using a wobbler again behind my fussy cut image.  It looks like she is fluttering over the card…so sweet!

Here’s a closer at her sparkly wings.
